Why Good Employees quit their job? (My Points of View)

From my experience, I just noticed why good and best employees quit their job early. There are several reasons why employees gradually lose their enthusiasm and later begin to disengage in their job.

I list down most of the common reasons. And here as follows:

1.       Relationship with Managers/ Immediate Supervisors – one of the top reasons why good employees decided to resign because of the relationship between immediate supervisors’ and managers. Authors Marcus Buckingham and Curt Coffman said in their book, First Break All the Rules: What The Worlds’ Greatest Managers Do Differently, that employees will not leave their job if their immediate supervisors/ managers treat them with equal and respect. Good managers have a big impact to the performance of employees. Thus, bad managers’ gave conflict and negative visions to employees in leading the track. No matter how much the salary if the employees received unprofessional treatment and not even acknowledge nor appreciate their job. The interest will diminish and will decide to leave. The important thing for the managers has the ability to listen and knows how to respect the individual difference of the employee. Narrow –minded managers have no space to handle employees and a company as well. Shouting and screaming creates a nightmare environment in the workplace and lay down their interest to work.

2.       Stress and Work-imbalance- a one employee doing jobs which is equivalent to two or more people. These are usually happens if the company retrench which result in longer working hours and even during day-off are forcing them to work. And their personal life almost disregarded. Working in long hours and additional work-load must be compensated equally according to the heavy loads and number of working hours and overtime as well. But the problem, there’s always unjust treatment and unequal fair compensation.

3.       Feeling Devalued and Unrecognized- employees are also human and they will not force you to recognize their effort but learn to appreciate and value their work and efforts to motivate them rather than negative criticism consistently. Mostly, a manager sees more of your negative side rather than the improvement you did. Screamers and mean bosses tend to distract the attention and enthusiasm of the employees. And the employees begin to scratch the surface of his interest.  That’s why all competent employees decided to leave than to stay and continue working for jerk.

4.       Lack of Growth & Opportunities- employees’ work in a company not only to earn money but to develop more of their skills. They are looking for advancement and progress. Not a stock-up knowledge and limited into.

5.       Lack of Equal Compensation- usually employees work hard just to earn more for the family even if it’s more time and extra work will be added to them. Thus, employees expecting equal compensation. All efforts and hard work must be paid accordingly with fair and just. However some manager’s overshadows all the efforts and hard work of the employees.  But managers’ have recognized and gave incentive to those employees whose interest bound between them. Favoritism and biased treatment have the tendency to quit in the company.

6.       Communication and Openness- primarily the common factor why employee quit jobs due to lack of openness and better communication. Managers must have the ability to collaborate, communicate and to listen to the opinions and explanations of the employees. Managers’ should understand the significance of the reasoning and work on retention strategies.

7.       Conflict with Peers – behavioral and personality conflicts are one of the common factors among peer groups. Conflicts sometimes results into deadly conversation and may results in leaving a job. Recognizing individual differences could help.

Remember Marcus Buckingham and Curt Coffman writes in their book,” People leave the managers not the company .”

Therefore, if you want your employee to retain, STOP the workplace into mess like drama. Employees should be treated normally and develop the environment more convenient for them. Share and contribute knowledge and expertise for the company. Give employees the power to solve rather than complainers. Good atmosphere may result to a good progress of the company. Equal compensation may strengthen the hard work and will result to talented employees on board. And in the end, if the employees will decide to leave they will never forget you on how you create good opportunities for them and how you help them to be a competitive individual.  However, bad managers will put you into track to avoid you in future - Bad Image and a jerk.
